Take part in the Living with Dementia survey

Watch our short animation to learn more about how easy it is to get involved with StepUp for Dementia Research.

About the survey

The Living with Dementia Survey is being conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, in collaboration with the University of Canberra.

The survey will ask you questions about things like:

  • Your experiences of being diagnosed with dementia; or caring for someone who received a diagnosis of dementia
  • Access to support services
  • Your overall wellbeing

The results of the survey will be used to inform the Australian government about topics such as:

  • Attitudes towards dementia, and how to promote dementia friendly community attitudes
  • Improving dementia diagnosis
  • Improving post-diagnostic care and support, and care coordination

How can I take part?

To take part in the survey, you must be either:

  • A person with dementia who is living in the community (i.e. at home). You may have a formal diagnosis of dementia or are in the process of getting a diagnosis.
  • A person currently supporting someone living with dementia in the community. You may consider yourself a care partner, carer, or a support person.

If this applies to you, or you’re interested in finding out about other research opportunities, you will need to register for a volunteer account with StepUp for Dementia Research.

Upon registering, if eligible, you will be matched to the study online. You may choose to complete the survey online, via an interview (online or over the phone), or on paper, and will take around 40-60 minutes to complete (maybe longer if completed via an interview). The survey asks about your experiences of receiving a dementia diagnosis, accessing support services, as well as your overall wellbeing. The survey can be completed with the help of a support person if needed.
